Today’s Most Talked about Course- Atlanta 10 Miler

August 7th, 2014 | In Events, In The News, Local Running News, Run Reviews

Have you seen the new Atlanta 10 Miler course?!

If you haven’t yet, check out the course preview video at the link below, but first read what Atlanta Track Club members and staff members have to say about the course. This might be the first time you are seeing the course, but it’s been run a few times as Atlanta Track Club ran around the city in search of a route that would bring the participant an exciting course, covering both new and familiar ground. The course starts at Atlantic Station with some of the best skyline views in the city, it guides you through beautiful, residential Buckhead and takes you to a portion of Peachtree Road that most participants might recall from the track club’s flagship July event, the AJC Peachtree Road Race. Turning off of Peachtree, scenic streets once again open up to breathtaking city views as you kick it in to the finish, back at Atlantic Station.

Since it’s 10 Miles, here are 10 highlights from the “Course Notes” written by the group after a trial run:

  1. My guess is everyone’s favorite miles will be 2-3 and 6-7, can you say downhill!
  2. This really is like no other course! We ran through very pretty neighborhood streets which all runners should enjoy.
  3. Miles 2.5-4.5 is an area of Atlanta I would have never run through if I wasn’t doing this race.
  4. It was hilly, but that’s a given in this city right?
  5. Liked the neighborhood change and that we’re going back to an area we used to run in many years ago. We haven’t run a race around here since before the early 90s!
  6. Peachtree Battle- my favorite part of the course!
  7. It was a tour of Atlanta I’ve never been on before.
  8. The toughest hill was Cardiac (no surprise there), but we’re giving people the chance to tackle it in October and then own it in July!
  9. Running along Bobby Jones Golf Course was particularly beautiful in the morning hours.
  10. The finish line is Solid. There is something almost magical about Atlantic Station!

I was thinking about running it last Sat. as part of an 11-miler but weaseled out because…I admit it…the hills (I HAD run a 20-miler the week before). But will DO IT soon…I swear! :-)

I did most of the course today. HILLS!!! Be warned that if you try it before race day that there are no sidewalks for most of the portion of the course on north side drive …so it’s almost like trail running! Just watch your footing!
