Michelle Black is a local runner who will be contributing to “The Run Around” section of the blog, highlighting new and different running routes in metro Atlanta. Michelle moved to Atlanta in the summer of 1999. She discovered running in 2010 and, as some would say, the rest is history. Running has become her passion; something to enjoy her surroundings and reflect.
Since Michelle discovered the sport in 2010 she has run seven half marathons; she plans to run a marathon in 2011. It only took 38 years for her to discover the sport, but there is no going back now! She has never felt as good as she does today- at age 39- and it will only get better. Enjoy Michelle’s post as she helps us discover new places to run!

For those of you in the Gwinnett area, there is a quaint little office park that is awesome to get in a run. The route is in the shape of a horse shoe and covers 3.1 miles – great for 5K training. It has a little bit of everything from steep inclines, flat areas and downhills.

For those of you that live near Windward Parkway in Alpharetta (OTP), you have quite a gem when it comes to places to run. Windward Parkway is located off Exit 11 on GA 400 in Alpharetta. It stretches from McGinnis Ferry to Highway 9, and into residential areas where the name of the road changes On weekday mornings and early on the weekends, there is little traffic, making the area a great place to get in a good run.

If you are looking for a park outside the perimeter, check out Short Howell Park. Nestled in Duluth, the park offers a .30-mile lighted track, 1.25-mile paved trail and a pavilion to grill with friends and family post-run.

Downtown Duluth has acquired a face lift over the years. One of my favorite additions, a pretty quaint café called Chocolate Perks (3160 Main Street) can serve as a meeting spot for your next run. From the cafe, “roadies” can enjoy the roads by venturing out for a 3, 5 or 8 mile run. There is plenty of parking in this area, and delicious treats waiting for you once you return from your run! Find out more about the routes in Duluth!
